TRADITIONAL JAPANESE DISHES SERVED WITH AN UNCONVENTIONAL TWIST

Netsu: Japanese Steakhouse at the Mandarin Oriental Dubai.

We were greeted by the theatrical high flames from the grill at Netsu, a Japanese Steakhouse at the stunning Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Showcasing the traditional Japanese cooking technique of Warayaki – straw fire cooking – Netsu serves a tantalising menu of Warayaki style grills, sushi and sashimi platters, and other Japanese style dishes.

The spacious dining area include murals on the walls and bar style seating around the open kitchen (the best seat in the house) to watch the dramatic flames each time the straw is lit. We were lucky enough to be there on a cool January evening and chose to be seated outside. The candle-lit terrace is surrounded by lush trees and overlooks the pool and ocean-you will be transported to an island paradise with the cool wind, stunning view and sound of the crashing waves.

The menu offers a contemporary take on classic dishes and rest assured there is so much more than just sushi and sashimi platters.

The restaurant has recently introduced a selection of new dishes to their menu and we were keen to try those. The hamachi tacos were the first to arrive. The fish had a nice kick to it and the light and crispy shell gave it a lovely crunch, we didn’t even realize how quickly we tucked into the dish.

The prawn toast was quite a showstopper with the bonito flakes and we absolutely adored it. We had been most excited to try their version of the currently trendy wagyu sandy and this one has to be hands down our top favorite!

The rich wagyu truffle sukiyaki is an absolute indulgence but was also the winning dish of the night. We ended the fabulous culinary experience with a main course of miso seabass and spicy seafood hot stone rice.

Netsu offers perfectly executed dishes, a relaxed ambience and attentive service. What more can we ask for?
