We have a lot of bright and shiny malls in Dubai, with plenty of chain coffee shops and eateries to take our pick from – but what we are lacking are independent delis and coffee bars, with character, buzz, and convenient sidewalk locations. This is why we were first in the queue to try out the brand new Pantry Café in Al Wasl Square, located just a stone’s throw from Safa Park.
The spacious interior, chalkboard scrawlings, exposed brickwork, canteen-style furniture and low hanging lights over tables instantly transported us to cafes in downtown New York – and the trendy vibe continued through to the outside area, with plenty of lounge-style seating and huge umbrellas to enjoy an Americano al fresco.
We ate during our visit (ordering Baked Camembert, Chicken Salad, and Margherita Pizza) – it was tasty, but not anything to write home about. The service also needs improvement, but it’s early days… What you do head to Pantry Café for, however, is the outstanding location and very cool Manhattan-style ambience.
