Bushman’s Restaurant and Bar serves traditional Aboriginal food and is located inside the Anantara Hotel on The Palm Jumeirah.
Bush Food was not something we had tried ever before, so when we were invited to try the latest Australian restaurant serving Aboriginal food we had to go check it out.  Everything about the restaurant oozes that relaxed Australian vibe.  We particularly loved the live music, where the band plays a whole genre of music including 80’s and 90’s classics.  The decor matches the vibe-it is a unique casual backyard-style setting throughout the restaurant.
The menu is a mix of steaks and seafood but if you want to experience the authentic Aboriginal cuisine then the kangaroo – the only place in Dubai serving this kind of meat- and few other seafood dishes are worth a try.  We began our meal with Moreton Bay Bug (a variety of slipper lobster) served on lemongrass skewers and coated in a cripsy tempura batter. The dish was light and tasty-definitely a great way to start the meal.
For our main we opted for one of Australia’s most favorite fish-Barramundi. Â The pan-baked fillet was covered in a herb and macadamia crust and served on top of lemon risotto-a hearty dish that had a unique flavor, but was also quite heavy. Â Our order of Wagyu Rib-Eye with a mushroom sauce and a side of sweet potato fries was definitely a firm favorite. Â Make sure you sample the tray of different salts, that enhance the flavor of the meat and make the dish memorable.
Chocoholics must try the chocolate trio that is an impressive combination of a rich flourless cake served with Jaffa ice cream and lime macaroon with wattle seed mousse. Â The flourless lime and coconut cake has subtle flavors that are the perfect way to end the meal.
Although Bushman’s is a bit of a trek (unless you live on the Palm), it is worth trying out with a group of friends for the chilled out atmosphere, the exotic food (how often do you visit a restaurant serving kangorou?) and the live music which is definitely a hit.
The live music by Josh McCartney is from 8-11pm every Monday – Saturday (so keep that in mind before making your reservation).
