The Rustic Bead is a Dubai-based online store that offers home accessories and decorations at an affordable price.
We love shopping in Dubai’s huge, glitzy malls, but sometimes miss strolling into independent boutiques and browsing quirky and unique collections. So when we heard about Dubai company The Rustic Bead, which sells a beautiful and ever-changing selection of decorative accessories and gifts from South Africa, we were soon reaching for our credit cards.
Currently only available online (with events planned during the cooler months), the brand’s boutique is split into several different lines from South African designers. Mitat is one of our favourites, with its vintage-inspired gift selection. Our highlight is the Fabric Gift Wrap with its eye-catching monochrome print, which makes a sustainable alternative to paper gift-wrapping and can be washed and re-used (35 AED).
We’re also very tempted by the Love Milo collection, which contains the fun and innovative Message Mug (85 AED). You can add your own personal message to the mug using the ceramic pen included – and when you wish to change the message, you simply rub it off with acetone and start again. Dishwater and microwave safe, the mug will make a great gift for someone forgetful – whether they use it for practical messages along the lines of “Don’t forget to feed the dog” or something more emotive, like “Happy Birthday!” or “I Love You.”
