What are you doing this weekend? How about spending the evenings hunting for crabs with your friends or family – and then sitting down to feast on them in a hotel restaurant later on? It certainly beats a movie and takeaway on the sofa!
You don’t have to travel far to do it, either… Head to The Flamingo Beach Resort in the Northern Emirate of Umm Al Qaiwain for the weekend (roughly 40 minutes to an hour’s drive from Dubai) and you will be invited to join their crab hunting trips, which leave the hotel at both 17.30 and 18.30. On arriving at the perfect spot (just a five minute boat ride), you’ll be shown how to catch the crabs with spears under torchlight, before returning to the hotel an hour later to freshen up and head down to dinner.
The hunting trips are timed to take place at low tide, so children can enjoy the experience – and it’s affordable too, adding just 190 AED per adult and 110 AED per child to the cost of your weekend. The price includes dinner, life jackets, and all necessary hunting equipment.
