A DRASTIC DETOX RETREAT IN AUSTRIA

Detox Retreat in Austria

Vivamayr Altausee is one of the world’s most luxurious wellness resorts.

Struggling to squeeze into your skinny jeans after the festive season? Desperately seeking a way to kick-start your healthy new year’s resolutions? Then look no further than VivaMayr Altaussee, one of the world’s most luxurious wellness resorts to experience.

VivaMayr Altausee, situated deep in the Austrian Alps at the edge of a lake is one of the world’s leading medical detoxification clinic resorts. A new generation of Mayr medicine, based on the original F.X. Mayr cure – a groundbreaking natural cure that includes intestinal cleansing – the Modern Mayr Cure combines traditional healing methods with tailor-made programmes for every guest, using the local mineral rich water for salt and oxygen therapies. Its main aim is to make you the healthiest you’ve ever been, with a flatter stomach pretty much guaranteed as a bonus side effect.

The hotel itself is stunning. Having only opened in April 2015, it still retains it crisp new feel and the décor is a breath of fresh air. Vitalising sorbet colours of lime, fuchsia and cherry offset the pale wood building beautifully. The open plan bedrooms include a sitting area and a balcony with drop-dead gorgeous mountain, lake and village views. If you missed out on a white Christmas, you’ll love the snowy setting with thick piles of sugary white powder.

You don’t come here to eat, but when you’re lucky enough to do so, the food is delicious. If you’re on a fasting plan the diet is based on bread and broth – the bread is deliberately served slightly stale to encourage you to chew 30-50 times with each mouthful. But, depending on your intolerances (kinesiology tests will establish these) and the diet you’ve been prescribed, you’ll also get to choose protein options of bresaola, cheese, eggs or fish or even a gorgeously presented plate of grilled turbot, potatoes and vegetables.

Your days are filled with consultations, massages, yoga or personal training sessions, infusions, saline inhalations, hypoxytraining (IHHT) to promote cell regeneration and liver compresses, but we urge you to get out and about too with walks around the lakes and trying your hand at snowshoeing – running through snow that metres high is likely the most alive you’ll ever feel.

Prices including meals start at Dhs880 per night. Emirates has direct flights to Vienna. From there it’s a three-hour drive or a one-hour flight to Salzburg.
