Spring Break is around the corned and for those of us staying in the country during the school break, this exhibition is worth checking out.
The Van Cleef & Arpel School of Fine Arts and the French Institute in the United Arab Emirates are organizing an exhibition entitled “Pearl Merchants: A Rediscovery Saga Between the Gulf and France” worth checking out.
A chapter in the history of jewelry forgotten up to now
L’ÉCOLE’s commitment to furthering the development of jewelry knowledge made possible a very ambitious research project: pearl commerce at the beginning of the 20th century.
“Little is it known that pearl was the focus of intense trading between the Gulf and France from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. This is the forgotten story of an incredible commercial and human adventure, now chronicled by this exhibition organized by L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels in co-production with the Institut Français in the UAE, cultural department of the French Embassy, and as part of the Emirati-French Cultural Dialogue.”
Entrusted to Leonard Pouy, PHD in Art History, the research stretched out over a year, between France and the Middle East. A lost saga, found again, to discover for yourself during the Exhibition in Dubai from March 28th to April 13th, 2019.
