A SENSORY AND FUN MOVIE EXPERIENCE
Dubai’s shopping malls have plenty of cinema options, ranging from standard to 3D to gold to IMAX. However, for those looking for something a bit different, there is a new move experience you may want to check out. The Dome Box, located in Jumeirah’s Box Park, puts moviegoers in the center of the action.
The venue, which can accommodate 80 viewers per showing, was launched in September by Meraas.
Inside the cinema, visitors are surrounded by a 360-degree screen and can lie back and relax on bean bag chairs. We had the chance to try out the experience and catch Africa and the Life of Trees, two eye-opening and exciting short movies.
The first film is a must see for adventure lovers and takes viewers on a fun ride through Africa’s breathtaking nature spots. During certain scenes, you really feel like you’re flying over the desert until you are faced head on with a stampede of wild animals. We would recommend the film for older children and adults as it involves a lot of movement and sound. The Life of Trees, however, is an ideal choice for young children or school trips as it engages kids in a fun way while it also explains the important contribution nature makes to our planet.
Beyond the entertainment, what we liked most about the place is the venue. The Dome Box has a real neighborhood feel and old charm as well. Right outside the cinema you can order waffles, ice cream, floats, popcorn or other sweets from the stand.
Tickets are also reasonably prices, at a cost of 45 AED for a two-movie package and 75AED for a four-movie package. The Dome Box is open from 12pm to 10pm Sunday through Wednesday and noon to midnight from Thursday to Saturday. School groups with reservations are welcome between 9am and 12 noon on weekdays.
