Dubai Confidential was one of the first to review the newly opened urban Silo Hotel in Cape Town.

It’s been billed as the biggest urban hotel opening of the year. And Dubai Confidential was one of the first to check in to check if it lives up to the hype. *Spoiler alert: it most certainly does.

The first thing that struck us when we entered our room with its double height ceiling was the magnified pillowed windows with their expansive views across the Mother City. The second was the slick and shiny bathroom with the most gorgeous turquoise cabinets and an oversized bath plonked right in front of the windows. We could happily have spent hours lolling around in there – all baths should be this photogenic.

But we forced ourselves to step outside – to the Sky Terrace above the rooftop bar on the 11th floor – to take in the blistering sunset. From here, as you sip on a zesty cocktail, you can also get your bearings, picking out landmarks like the V&A shopping mall and Robben Island in the distance.

The Silo also happens to serve one of the best breakfasts in town at the Granary Café. Before you even order your eggs a three-tiered tray of smoked salmon, cured meats, homemade granola, fruit and yoghurts is presented to you, along with a basket of sinfully buttery croissants. This is not a meal that you’ll want to rush.

There are only 28 rooms with the Penthouse suite costing just short of a staggering Dhs40,000 in high season. But you know what they say about ‘Location, Location’… and you’ll be hard-pressed to find better views from anywhere else in the city.
