The words ‘flower arrangement’ may not sound exciting to your ears, but Ikebana (which means “giving life through flowers”) takes it to another league. Once you have caught sight of the beautiful aesthetic and refinement of these arrangements, you will want to know how it is done.

During the course, you will need to use creativity, artistic flair, and extreme concentration to precisely place each flower, branch, twig, and leaf. Japanese teacher Fujiko Zarouni holds the courses in her workshop near Hamriya port, with a class of Japanese, French, German, South African, Pakistani and Indian students. Any nationality is welcome. However, don’t expect to come here for a gossip with friends, as there is no talking during the course – your mind will be so focused for two hours that it is almost a spiritual experience.

The result of the lessons will be an arrangement to take home. It may be temporary, but you will have acquired the skills to recreate the beauty time and time again.
