Nette is a French-Japanese restaurant in the heart of Al Quoz.
Tucked away in the bustling district of Al Quoz is Dubai’s latest boutique Padel club and community hangout, Matcha. As much as we would like to start getting more active and try our hand at the latest sporting trend, Paddle here, we were there to try Nette, their brand new French-Japanese restaurant overlooking the courts.
The rich green foliage leads you through the courts and towards the bright and airy café. We love the courtyard that overlooks the bright orange courts and is surrounded by a selection of plants and trees. The indoor seating is also inviting, and the wicker furniture and light walls will transport you straight to a tropical wonderland.
We chose to sit outdoors under the shade of the Mango tree and started with a flat white with oat milk with beans sourced from their neighbourhood roastery, Three Roasters Coffee. It was strong and probably one of the best we have had in recent times.
Innovatively fusing timeless French dining with the playful flavours of Japan, the menu celebrates the best of both French and Japanese cuisine. Designed by Chef Shaunne and created with sharing in mind, flavours such as miso, taragosia, mirin and tamari are present in the menu.
There is an exciting breakfast selection of both sweet and savoury options ranging from the Honey Matcha Bowl to the Egg Sando Sandwich. There is a range of nutritious and delicious salads plus unique sandwiches including the Miso Braised Beef French Dip Sandwich and the Avocado and Seaweed Salad Sandwich.
We tried the Miso eggs benedict-poached eggs served with miso brown butter hollandaise, dried capers and pickled shallots and served on a rustic country sourdough bread. A hearty plate that can help you kickstart the day.
In the salads, miso seared tuna came highly recommended and was refreshing and filling. The fish was perfectly cooked and the watermelon topped with wasabi and shallots were an interesting combination that worked perfectly together.
Desserts include Vegan Matcha & Chocolate Eclairs, Japanese souffle Crème Brûlée Buttermilk Pancakes and French toast served with matcha mascarpone, yuzu curd, yuzu macerated seasonal berries & toasted pecan. We tried the Japanese pancakes that were soft and fluffy and we were quick to wipe the plate clean (and also very tempted to order one more round!)
From a quick lunch after a mid-morning yoga class or well-earned dinner following a game of padel, to a family breakfast at the weekend or a fresh juice whilst answering some emails, Nette is a cheerful new spot to try.
