An alternative to the traditional weekend brunch in Dubai at this modern European restaurant.
Folly by the famed chef duo Nick and Scott is located in Madinat Jumeirah. The tongue in cheek name has been chosen because they want their guests to relax and enjoy the entire experience.
The discreet entrance and the wooden staircase will lead you to the open kitchen and main dining area. There are four terraces spread over two floors that provide a direct view of Madinat Jumeirah and the Burj Al Arab. The wood and brick décor has a rustic vibe. There is an outdoor communal table for a special event and also a private dining for two in the windtower overlooking the Burj Al Arab.
We were invited to experience the weekend lunch on the terrace. The sharing concept consists of a total of five courses all brought out to the table for the diners to share. We began with chicken liver parfait served with date chutney and brioche-highly indulgent, it was possibly our favourite course. Next came the smoked salmon, cheese and sunflower seeds-a very simple dish presented in an eye-catching manner. The platter of radishes served with sesame and soy was definitely more of an acquired taste but still an interesting concept.
The Wagyu sirloin was accompanied with foie gras Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes and greens-a hearty combination. The chocolate and hazelnut mille fueille was perhaps too large for us to make a dent on it.
This weekend brunch at Folly is a laid-back affair and a refined alternative to the traditional brunch.
