a weekend in abudhabi

It amazes us at how quickly Abu Dhabi is changing and as some of you may already know we also cover the capital through Abu Dhabi Confidential, so we obviously know all the hottest addresses and inside tips on where to go.

If this weekend you want a change of scenery then take this short trip from Dubai and go discover the changing landscape of Abu Dhabi, in terms of food and entertainment.  We have listed some our favorite picks for now and hope you will have a great time just like we always do:

KAYAKING IN THE MANGROVES: Book yourself a private tour for about two hours and kayak your way while admiring the amazing natural landscape around Eastern Mangroves, Yas or Al Rahba.

LEBANESE FLOWER: Check out this legendary Lebanese eatery that is famous in Abu Dhabi and beyond for serving wholesome food-don’t leave the city without at least picking up their famous shawarmas!

GALLERIA MALL: Dubai may have plenty of malls, but this one is really special.  Overlooking the water the design and layout are contemporary and worth admiring.  For lunch head over to Bentley Café, a casual chic new beautifully-done restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking the water and serving Mediterranean dishes.

Do make sure though that you save space for dessert and go to Magnolia Café (just a level above Bentley) to enjoy a delicious sweet treat.  The quintessential NYC bakery is the only independent one in the UAE and has a proper seating area and a menu that is far bigger than its Dubai counterpart.

HOUSE OF FRASER:  If you are a shopping addict but don’t want to break the bank then swing by this famous department store that carries eclectic brands and is yet to open in Dubai.

FISH MARKET:  It may not be the most glamorous but there is no other place in the entire country that can compare to the largest indoor fish market.  With an unbelievable selection of all types of different seafood from across the region and the world (each stall sells fish from a spefic part of the world) trust us when we say you won’t be leaving empty-handed!

BRITISH MUSEUM:  Get a taste of history with this awesome exhibition of ‘A History of the World in 100 Objects‘ that showcases how humans have shaped the world and have been shaped by it. The 100 objects on display span over two million years through the history of humanity and help in understanding the development of cultures across the globe.

IRIS:  Relax in the evening at the uber-trendy Beirut born institution now also in Abu Dhabi.  It has a unique chilled out vibe and is definitely a fun place worth checking out.
